OSLO 14 (NO)
Oslo 14, taking its name from the city and the year in which it was founded (as well as serving as a homage to the 80s jazz group Oslo 13), is currently a 19-woman-and-men strong vocal ensemble put together by Elin Rosseland. Their aim is to expand on the vocal ensemble format by incorporating improvised elements into contemporary compositions. Oslo 14 have performed material by Susanna Wallumrød, Camille Norment, Sofia Jernberg and Lisa Dillan, and others. Oslo 14 is Karoline Ruderaas Albrigtsen, Bethany Forseth-Reichberg, Åshild Bergill Hagen, Ingrid Vik Henriksen, Lise Hvoslef, Hanne Kalleberg, August Kann, Therese Lech, Hanna Nydal, Lisbeth-Anita Grimsø Olsen, Astrid Elisabeth Pedersen, Ingrid Støylen Runde, Live Sollid Schulerud, Sigrid Strand Stiberg, Signe Irene Stangborli Time, Thomas Tvedt, Marthe Haaland Wang, Thea Emilie Haaland Wang, Sigrid Aase.
FRED VAN HOVE (BE)
Through his work in the 1960 and 70’s, and perhaps most notably (but by no means exclusively) as a contributor to Peter Brötzmann’s hugely influential “Machine Gun” from 1968, Belgian pianist, organist and accordionist Fred Van Hove is considered a central and pioneering figure of European free jazz. In addition to Brötzmann, his long list of collaborators feature names such as Han Bennink, Steve Lacey, Lol Coxhill and Evan Parker. Van Hove has also composed music for films and worked with artists from other creative disciplines.
JON WESSELTOFT (NO) / YUEN CHEE WAI (SG)
Oslo-based musician and sound designer Jon Wesseltoft has been performing and composing since the late 1990s, both as a solo artist and in various projects within metal, noise, improvisation, sound art and long form music. He has worked with C. Spencer Yeh, Okkyung Lee, and recently on the recording “Celadon” with Maja Ratkje, Camille Norment and Per Gisle Galåen. Yuen Chee Wai has long been active in the improvised music scene, both internationally and in Singapore, primarily working with electronic instruments and field recordings, either in the context of improvisation and noise or composing music for dance, film, radio and TV. He is also a designer and photographer and a founding member of the Singapore Sonic Arts Collective.
